Councilman Washington wants to make sure everyone is doing their job, notably the mayor and public works director. The mayor is reading a proclamation regarding a retiring employee and we will be wrapping it up.
Did anyone read any of this, either here or on facebook? Even if you didn't, I'm going to continue to do it so that at least a few more people can be aware of the machinations of our city council. Let me know if you have any suggestions and be watching for video segments from this meeting and others soon.
Better yet, come to the meetings and see what goes on for yourself. Wetumpka is a better place when it's citizens are most informed.

You should've been there Friday at the budget hearing, when Pro Tem LW grilled PubWorks Dir LW (coinciding initials of this council are a pain) about why some bushes around the MLK Complex were cut down and others weren't.
The reason, per PubWorks Dir., that certain shrubs were cut was how youth took advantage of the privacy they provided.
"I don't want to mention in mixed company what (cleaning crews) have found over there ... in large amounts. Teens are over there involved in actions they shouldn't be doing."
Her implication, if not clear enough, was that city employees were finding large numbers of latex items that bear the same brand name as Troy University's mascot.
The MLK Shrubbery debate was 20 minutes of my life I'll never get back.
mr. bitterness...this is exactly the problem. For some reason every other councilperson kowtows to the Mayor Pro Tem and we are forced to sit and listen to him drone on and on about things that aren't important issues. This causes an inordinate amount of time to be wasted on minor things and his only real reason for speaking up is...well, speaking up. He loves to think he has some sort of power and he apparently does over other members of the council who allow him to take over virtually whole meetings with his drivel.
well, no need to zero in too tightly on Wetumpka's Mayor Pro Tem, Wetumpka's council, or even municipal government on that charge. Top to bottom, there are few things a Pol loves more than the melodic tones of his or her voice.
Must be a genetic thing, like the teens who litter shubbery with angry little Greeks.

I would like to know why at the same budget meeting one such councilperson ask the Wetumpka Fire Chief "If this person is hired to answer the phone what are you going to do". I guess Wetumpka's Fire Chief should be worried more about answering general phone calls rather than being fully equiped mentally, and physically to save lives.
This Councilperson not only showed disrespect for Wetumpka's Fire Chief but he disrespected the profession of firefighting. Maybe this person should ask the same question to the families of the fallen. If 9/11 firefighters only answered phones they would be alive today. But!!!!!! Firefighters are public servants that put their lives before others and never quetion who, what, where, or when. With that in mind, firefighters/public servants should always, I mean always, have our respect at all times, EVEN IN COUNCIL MEETINGS.
This Councilperson should thank God every day for people who make the choice to serve and protect the public. Without these people, lives would be lost everyday.

Hey, on a more serious note to the citizens of Wetumpka. Something to think about! What would happen if Mayor Willis resigned and Washington became Mayor of Wetumpka? It's okay, I can answer my own querston, the two (2) KH's would fight over Mayor Protempore and the little cc would have to resign because the power struggle would continue and he would be afraid of Kholt. Mayor Lewis E. Washington, Sr. Now you can throw-up!
